Katharine Weiss, MPH

WSNA Director of Government Affairs

Katharine Weiss, MPA, is the Director of Government Affairs at the Washington State Nurses Association. Since joining WSNA in 2019, Katharine has helped lead efforts to pass legislation addressing health system transparency, Presumptive eligibility for workers compensation for nurses with COVID-19 and increased training and resources for Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners.

Katharine began her career as a community organizer in Southern Arizona connecting people to health insurance and health care. After experiencing firsthand the disconnects between health policy and how people experience health care on the ground, Weiss decided to pursue a degree in Public Administration. In 2017, she received her master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Washington. Prior to joining the WSNA staff, Weiss worked as a policy, research and politics expert for the Washington State Labor Council, Washington State Health Care Authority and Community Health Plan of Washington.

I loved 'building the business case for nursing' and the conversation around empowering the nursing workforce to take ownership of high reliability and quality outcomes of healthcare organizations — 2015 attendee
